After the successful premiere of Katharina Thalbach´s restaging of Mozart´s „The Magic Flute“ last summer, the success story of this festival was continued this year (from August,16th to September,2nd) with George Bizet´s masterpiece „Carmen“. The opera was directed by Academy Award winner Volker Schlöndorff, one of Germany´s most outstanding movie makers.

For this festival, stage designer Volker Hintermeier created a large construction of a semitransparent hand-held fan, 12 meters high and 24 meters wide, where the audience could watch the different scenes of the opera – from the tobacco factory to the bullfighting arena – listening to George Bizet´s compositions while the sun set at the unique scenery of the lake.

Black Box Music provided the sound, lighting and video technology for the production at Wannsee. Regarding the sound, the following equipment was being used: L-Acoustics KARA, L-Acoustics KIVA, Subwoofer L-Acoustics SB28, L-Acoustics 112XT, L-Acoustics 12XT, L-Acoustics MTD-112, L-Acoustics 108P, L-Acoustics LA-RAK, L-Acoustics 8XT, Riedel Rocknet System, Digital-Monitoring Desk DIGICO SD7, DIGICO SD7 Stagebox, Digital-Monitoring Desk Yamaha LS-9/32, Hall-System TC M-6000, 32 ch Sennheiser UHF System with microphone DPA 4061, microphony by Neumann , DPA , Sennheiser,Shure for the recording of the choir and the orchestra and Telex wireless intercom. With regard to lighting technology, VARI*LITE VL3500 Wash, Martin MAC III Perform, 6er Bar PAR 64, 4er Bar PAR 64, 4-Lite Blinder, JAM Studio PARII, Sunstrip-Active 10x 75W, LED-Single PAR Litecraft MiniPAR AT-3, MA 24-Channel-Dimmer, fog machines Viper 2.6 kW, MA GrandMA 2 Fullsize and MA NPU were being used. In terms of video technology, DLP-Projector Panasonic PT-DZ110XE, various preview monitors and video direction were being used.
